thought I'd put up a tip and people could add to it or give differnt versions.

One way slide wire setups can be used for other than drowning as you can use them on dryland sets also. Say you found a great location for a trap but if you catch anything in it everybody and their brother will see your catch and you will risk losing your catch and trap setup. Now it's not a good location anymore because nobody wants to lose their equipment/fur.So if there's cover nearby(tall grass, fenceline, etc.) make your set and put your trap on a slider so that when you connect with a animal he will take himself and your trap down the wire and into the cover and can't get back in the open, this will hide them until you get there to remove and reset. Pretty basic but I hope it helps someone.

Use them to slide your catch away from a good location you don't want torn up as well...

When you use these on dryland, or even in water, if you make a 'X' with two tall weeds (tall enough to be visible from a good ways yet not look unnaturaland attract two-legged critters) near the cover, you can save time having to walk to the set if you still can see the 'x'. Of course make the 'x' solid enough that wind will not knock it down but dont make it solid enough that it gives the animal something to wrap around.

The animals will tell you more on how to trap them than any trapping forum, book, or video. \:D

How sturdy do you have to stake the sliders on a dryland set?

I am assuming you should use cable?

And will cable still hold up to a fighting coyote?

Not just the kids. This is going to be my first season and I am reading all the tips I can. I am also still looking for a mentor here in Oregon. Great tips anyway, and great art work too!

ADC-last season, i had that exact setup goin on, but i didnt put it on a slide and there was about 6 inches of snow. when i showed up, there was a huge male coyote in it dead, mangiest thing ya ever saw. well i reset with another snare but kinda figured the only bare spot that smelled like dead yote in the county wasnt ganna get touched. but on the next days check i saw a set of track goin in about a 15yd circle around it all the way, like something was investigating, then the yote went on down the trail. but it was in the open with minimal snare spots, so i forgot about it. the next day another set did the same. so i set a snare on either end of the catch circle and the next morning was the nicest female coyote i have caught yet. just thought id add that story on here, if i had known about this set im sure i woulda had her right away, o well tho i still caught her and thats all that really matters right? haha thanks for reading.

This setup also works when trapping coons in culverts. Run a slider with a large rock up inside the culvert. When you get a coon it runs up the culvert, out of sight, and they also seem to be a lot calmer when inside the culvert.
