DOGS=OLD COYOTE ALAPHA MALES.

puppys=dogs that should be having an eye kept on them not roaming around the country.

ive had sev triple and quad on coons in a 20 yard stretch of river, and ive never seen a dog ever come around and mess with my catch.if theres that much fear of catching non-targeted animals in your area wright just move on to a different spot.

My 1st yote was in a remake that I caught a house cat in. All that was left of the cat was its foot in the trap. And thats the only time I have had a furbearor eat something in my trap.

I make my dirthole and then have my traps offset. For areas where I think the yotes are hunting or traveling do you put multyple baitsets or 1 baited baited dirthole with blindsets around it?

Thanks Everyone for there input. Do not have anyone to teach me so yall and videos and books are my only source. Sorry if some questions are novice sounding

archer, i will run pretty much the same set on about 95% of my sets, a baited dirthole.

only if i need to, or am bored with making dirtholes for the day, will i make a flat set.

LOL I think he may think your trapping house pet dogs Charles

Wrong. I was referring to the other guy's logic about not wanting to attract dogs into his second set if he already caught a target animal. Lay off the hippie lettuce Bill and read the whole post.

Archer said
"I put 2 traps per set, 1 set per location . When yall put 3 sets at a location, do yall use 1 trap per set or multible.
thanks "

I read that as using multiple traps at one dirt hole or other set.

I said
"I do not want more than one trap within reach of another."
And
"Picture a coon in a trap, then an unattended dog comes along and wants to torment him, and gets caught in the other close trap. Now what are you picturing?"
And
"I will set multiple traps on a good location, but not within reach of one an other."

Meaning if you get two differant animals, in two differant traps, within biting distance, there's liable to be trouble.

I have seen recomendations for even using the same stake for two traps, no not on this thread, but I am darn sure the original poster saw that also. And I just wanted to point out that I think those practices are not good.

No harm no foul, it's all my fault for my lacking comunication skills on here and I appologize. Over and out.

I do know an old guy who puts two long springs on the same drag in the winter. He cuts steps down the bank to a muskrat carcass and places one trap on two separate steps (ledges). He does catch fox. Never seen two traps on the same stake at the same dirt hole.

Not flaming Bill either, it was in Jest. I can't use the smiley faces.

archerobx, i would never put more than one trap at a "set". a "set being like a dirthole/flatset/etc.. i would put more than one trap at a "location" being the wheatfield/riverstretch / etc..i think that putting 2 traps at a set is a waste of a trap that could be put 10yds away and catch another critter.i think that with a well set up trap, one trap should be able to hold one critter. if you set up the trap for the specific animal you are targeting, than that one trap should be able to hold that one critter. just my 2 cents.

If you have an location that you are not sure where you wish to place your set, Take a dog along with you. It will show you where to set at a location. It is a great way to find out where other canine have visited for a newer trapper.
