I heard that Iowa coons like better on wood. I have used wire in the past and have never seen a wood streched coon. How much of a difference is there? Thanks

Everything looks better on wood. makes them look thicker.

i use wire cause its cheaper, you might get a better stretch on wood but wood cost twice as much as wire.

Wood makes the pelts look more uniform. Also if you measure and mark your stretchers you'll know when you need just that little bit extra to get to the next size.

it depends on what you are stretching....coon i would say wood, fox the same but definately wire for yotes...its takes forever for them to dry out on wood....its all a matter of preference...try both..

Yote girl you must not know much about stretching coyotes as wood makes them look 100% better and they dri just as fast on wood as wire

Yote girl does know..Her dad and his friends put hundreds of coyotes up every year and they look great. As for saying coyotes look 100% better on wood.. what!!

This question always brings out lots of discussion and opinion. We all feel we have found the system that best fits our needs.

I would suggest that you contact the person(s) or firms that you plan to sell and or deliever your pelts to. Ask them how the prefer to have the pelts handled and what types of drying forms they prefer the specific species to be dried on.

If you feel you did not get the information you wer looking for then you can expand your information circle. Both the NAFA and the FHA have excellent fur and pelt handling booklets.
There are also large collectors of furs that do not sell through those large auction houses. You will be best served by knowing the type of put up the end point handlers of your fur desire.

You can also decide for yourself the system that you prefer to use and then find the market that rewards you the best for the put up you prefer.

I have changed about 3 times on coons and rats over the last 25 years and still have much to learn.
