i got my 1.5's out today and played around with them. for mink shouldnt they have a hair-trigger because of the light feet? the pan has zero tension and just drops freely(no side play), but when i set it, the springs put enough pressure on the pan that it dosnt have a hair trigger? any ways to fix this? they are just standard 1.5's(2 coil) do u think i could just file the dog notch SLIGHTLY to make it fire quicker and easier? i have never trapped mink, so this tension might be ok? help me out here guys. thanks

oh yah, you need light pan tension, but not overly light, if a coon happens to wonder by and step into your trap, you will only catch him by a toe or two, and might loose him, make it light enough so that you can drop a small stone about 2 feet up and have it go off,

Bend down the very end of the dog this will let the pan drop eaiser. It dosen't take much so do a little at a time untill you get it where It should be.

I layed out 3 traps for mink this season with zero pan tention and had 3 mink working them every couple of weeks and not one set off a trap. I couldn't believe it. I thaught a coon was taking the bait or they were hoping over it until after a rain they left muddy foot prints on the pan. I think I'm going to try bending the dog down this year. ~Dan~

I do not believe thats true. I run the same zero pan tension, night latched traps for both coon and mink. The important thing with both is no creep.

Any trap with that is bedded stable and has no creep or a short throw or less then 1/16th movement before firing will catch coons wonderfully. I have been doing this for years very successfully, and use the same traps for both.

I do use pan tension on my canine traps and larger traps but for different reasons.

No tension, bend dog lightly to speed action & wax the traps.
Watch your fingers.
