I have seen a skinning machine at my local shows. was wonering the name of the manufacture, and if anyone had any info on them. cost, ease of use, etc.. I'm a taxidermist and skin my fair share of animals every year.
Do these machines work on multi-species. I do anywhere from 50-150 coyote, 25-75 fox, with some smaller furbearer mixed in..
Love some feedback..
Thanks a million.

ps I emptied my full mailbox, so pm away..lol

Geoff,

While there are some manufactures of commercial skinners we have all made out own. Yes, they will work for multiple critters but I am guessing the majority of skinning machines are for coon and yotes.

Do a search for skinning machines in the archives and you'll see a bunch of them.

all you need is a harbor freight winch (I got mine for like $80) and a stand of some sort with the clamps for the hide. There are many varieties and I am sure everyone thinks theirs is the best. Mine is the standard model that I made myself. I have mine as a stand alone unit till I get a permanant shed built and when in use it is in my welding shop but I can put it away when I am working in the summer.

I don't use a frame. I don't have the head room. I have my winch mounted against the wall and skin sideways.

Brian Riske E6676Cty Rd N Manawa,WI 54949 (920) 596-3204 cel phone (920) 538-4008 He builds a very good skinning machine. He is normally set up at the WTA convention and since Wisconsin is going to hold the NTA this year I'd guess he will be set up at that one too. Call him for info, try to make the NTA as you can see things like this and more in person.

They work great for coyotes, raccoons, opposums, ect... On fox I just use the winch to raise them up off the floor as I pull by hand on them thin skinned rascals.
