I must not have left one of my Red Fox dry well enough before turning it. I have a Small spot about the size of a dime on each ear that is slipping. The fur everywhere else on the pelt is tight and dry. Is it worth keeping or should I just pitch it? I never had this happen before.

Fur Buyers...What are your thoughts?

Last I heard, there isn't a market for ears. Keep it. Depending on the buyer, it may go as a slight. As a buyer myself, I do a little pulling on fur here and there, and if everything else is ok, I wouldn't grade it a slight but as what it is and ignore the ears. Thats just me though.

One more thing bic. Use Borax around those ears, under the forelegs etc. You won't have to ask this question again.

I'd keep it where its just on the ears.

I use Borax on the above mention areas, theres no going back anymore.

If your buyer says he's docking ya for it. Pick up your fur and move on down the line.

Right on Blackdog! I am a firm believer that borax doesn't hurt a thing, in fact, I fully believe it saves a lot of fur. Don't forget to give those canines a good "borax bath" (rub it through the fur, and brush/blow it out prior to selling. This makes that fur really stand up by removing any grease/dirt remaining in the fur.
Bic, if a buyer tries to doc you for using borax, give me a shot at buying them. I won't doc you, lol.

Where do you fellas buy your Borax. At the grocery store in the laundry detergent section? Is it marketed as 20 Mule team or something?

That's what I have. Some places don't have it.

I have used it on turkey tails, bear claws, coon ivory and all kinds of other stuf.

Sounds like you failed to remove the ear cartilidge. Borax won't help that.

If you cant remove the cartlage, at least try to split the inside of the ear.
