I stake my traps, in anticipation of catching coyotes, using two 24in rebar stakes. The question I have is can I have some suggestions on removing the rebar stakes from the ground when moving my traps. Any tips would be appreciated in making stake removal much easier, as I seem to have to pull and pull to get the stakes out. I am a new trapper and would like to hear how some of you more experienced trappers get your stakes out of the ground. Thanks in advance for all your help.......

Scott's idea works. You can also get a prybar and widen out the nailpuller notch. Unless severely frozen in, most times you can put a pair of visegrips on the stake, give it several spins, and they will come out fairly easily. Kind of screw them out.

I have always just rotated them in several circles both ways and it seems to always loosen them up enough to remove.

Of course all bets are off if you drive them thru a root or into a ledge of rock, then you need a pry bar to enlist greater leverage on them.

There is a prybar available that looks like a tee that is bent on a 45 degree angle with notches to pull nails on the outside of the "tee part" that works considerable better then a conventional prybar. It's hard to explain but they are available at Manards in the same place where regular prybars are located. Pull one stake out at a time. HP

Visegrips, turn the stake around couple times puller up. In a real bad situation you might also have to hammer the stake from side to side a little also. It should come up. I have at times also used a stake puller made for disposible stakes. Hooked the stake puller to the chain and pulled it up. If it is frozen in and you can't get it, open the J hook and remove the trap and come back in the spring and get the rest.

If frozen I wack it with a 3lb hammer, then use a vice grip on the nut on top oif stake to wiggle it out. I won't have to do that next yr, I'm going to all High Desert Spears. I was using stakes for snares, with all this rain this fall, they are nearly worthless.

Pickaxe works good too..Use the pick to hook onto the swivel and the curve to pry it out.

I use a regular 3 ft Crowbar. I hook it under the nut and it pry's right up.
