I am new to trapping and have a couple questions so forgive me if I sound ignorant. I have a hay set that I made with wheat straw because the deer are thick. I have it set for coyotes or fox.

How often should I re-apply urine or lure to it? It has not had any activity yet.

Does it hurt the effectiveness of fox or coyote urine if it has been frozen?

Thank you

When you do your check in the morning kneel down wind. If you can still smell it, they can REALLY smell it.

i always set them like this trap-hay(hole in the middle)hay-trap. To explain a little further.I started off with digging two trap beds. then putting a dirthole in the middle of the two. With 6-8 inches from trap to hole for both. Then put my bait down the hole and scatterd hay on top creating a mound. Then before i leave it gets a squirt of urine. Seems to be working out for me.

What are you using for bait?

I went to the hay set because it's been below zero for a few days now and I didn't have any kind of antifreeze yet.

no need to dig holes . just set the traps and put hay on top. yall are looking way to far into this set. its made to be able to be set on frozen ground or snow( hence me settin them on ice) its a simple set dont make it more complicated then it is

lennitrapper:

Do you bed your traps at all or are they just sitting on top of the ground?
