When you catch some, post some pics on "Cat sets and locations", if you can...

Well, a fish type baits would be more natural along a water's edge. I don't believe most raccoons eat a lot of fish, not like a mink or otter, because they're not as good at catching them.
Still fish odor is very attractive to raccoons and is probably, one of the top baits (ground fish) sold in one form or another.

Sweet type or fruit baits are also very natural and attractive to raccoons. I honestly don't know why it wouldn't work in a pocket set, lets say, at the water's edge. Not many people use that type of bait and/or lure on a water trapline, but I can't see why it wouldn't work.
I make about a dozen 'sweet lures' for nuisance trappers targeting raccoons. ( loganberry, cherry, persimmon, butter pecan, just to name a few.)
All work equally well,(although I do have a personal favorite) and would no doubt attract 'coon in any setting.
I use them in cage traps for ADC work.
I don't think a raccoon could stop and wonder why a fish odor would be coming out of a cage trap, 10 miles from the nearest stream either.
When raccoons are feedong heavily in the fall and early winter, most anything that resembles food, will be effective to some degree.

I've got a few pics to share. I'm by no means a big #'s guy, but I manage to get a few a year.
Interesting catch...

Location, bins to old barn trail,

Trail leading to water

No need to re-dig this pocket set thanks to the drowner.

I was shown the "lure on a stick" by my friend, and it works!

Neither, a total of 1 coon caught in a grizz set for 7 days. We did get hit hard by distemper though.

When setting a pocket set for coons, what is your trap placement?
Up close in the pocket or farther out along the bank line?

Anyone ever tried using pheasant gutts as coon bait? My buddy shot a few this afternoon and just gave me a call offering the gutts for bait. Will it work?

No cat season around here but if it'll work for coons then I think I'll try it. Thanks!
