Are you using a tail puller?

I just use 2 sticks about as big around as a finger. Put one on each side of the tail, sqeeze it in your hand and pull. I have never lost a tail that way.

I have tried all of the other ways but i wont do it again with out a tail puller.. What i do is split the tail part way down then skin around it. I will stick the tail puller on i have the metal one so i use the Med size hole. Grab the puller with one hand and use the other to hold the base of the tail. Give one good hard pull and the tail comes right off.

M.Howard makes a god point ... seems if'n ya split your tail beyond that thicker few inches regardless of what you choose to use as a "puller" doesn't work as good ... kinda reckon maybe it doesn't get the same binding while being pulled/stripped ... that make any sense? lol

a good effective tail puller that will last and last is a small cheap pair of slip joint pliers ... open them, put around tail ... then grasp them (pliers) while around the tail and and pull/hold pliers & push the carcass

It also helps to cut all the ligaments (cut a little deeper) around the area you start to pull from. It's been a couple years since I have had any problems pulling the end of the tail off.

I tell people to push the bone out of the fur rather than pull the fur. Think about that the next time you are doing one.

slow down a bit and take your time. Don't jerk the puller down the tail get on it and pull by holding the tail good with your left and and give it heck with the right hand. One movement and it'll be off.

Don't let it sit around till the tail dry's out. The skin will be harder to peel.

You need to split the tail about half way, and when you start to pull go easy. It takes 3 or 4 little pulls to get to the end of the split, then put on the metal tail stripper. One hand pulls with the stripper and the other holds the base of the tail.A steady pull works best.

Just wondering how important is it to the price of the fur to get the entire tail?

To me it shows the care taken to ensure that the tail was left on and dried proper.
