Should i pin out the tails on coon like you would for an otter
or just a pin on the end?

On wood I pin them out 4 or 5 pins to a side

I do not stretch it down or sideways just flat

Yes on wood stretchers. I pinned the tail out on my coon like you would on an otter, and was wondering if this is the wrond thing to do.

I think you do do that on wood stretchers ( don't quote me though).

Not the wrong thing ,but, it will not make you a penny more. As long as you keep a few pins in the tail to keep it open to dry, is all it needs.

I use wire stretchers and find that clothespins hold the tail open quite easily. Two is all it takes.

i saw this at a convention a couple years ago, but if you take a piece of cardboard about 10 inches long and 5 inches wide, start it at the base of the tail and slide it down flat on the tail. once the tail is completely covered i just staple the cardboard in place or nail it, etc... the cardboard sucks out the grease and they dry real nice looking.

I know I spend too much time pinning the tails. I want them to look good, but don Wolf is right, it doesn't increase the value at all. Last year a lot of my coon only had half a tail and they brought the same as those with nice tails all pinned nice and even.

I hold them open with large paper clips, on wire Id imagine you could do it with wood too and just pin the tip of the tail down.

Hey guys and gals. I use fine mess screen in strips 3in. by 10in. I use a electric stappler. Place screen over tail 3 or 4 down the sides and one at the tip. does a fine quick job. Digger Catcher1
