I in the process of building a skinning gambrel.
Does anyone have the type of gambrel used on some of the skinning machines? It looks like a 1/4" x 3" x maybe 18" bent at an angle (maybe 45 degrees) with notches cut out.
I'm looking for the right dimensions to build one.
Thanks in advance for your help.

That would work too.
It seems very similar to the one I'm building. I might try this idea too.
The one I saw was at the PA trapping convention and was hooked up to the skinning machines. I could have bought one for $14, but I can build one for free. It was very simple as well. Flat steel bent at an angle with v notches cut in each end with a loop welded to attach the rope, chain, or cable.

It sounds like the one your looking for is the type I built. my first one had a loop welded to it to attach to a swivel and then to the gambrel. I sold that one and had to build a new one for myself. This one I built the swivel into the gambrel and it sounds just like TexA hooks his up except. I build them from 3/16x3 flat. I bend them at 35 deg.
45deg. I think is to steep. I can get 14 out of a 20ft length of flat bar.

I have it built. I think it should work. It is definitely heavy duty. 1/4" steel. The angle between the 2 sides is 120 degrees, so that would be 30 degrees per side. Wish I could post a pic, but I can't even view pics on trapperman.
