I'm not sure what "Sullivan Site" but I can tell you all a little known secret about "waxing" dirt...it can be done in 15-30 minutes if done right. Not just a few gallons but ALOT of dirt, regardless of the time of year. The problem with trying to wax dirt here in the east is that the sun doesn't get HOT enough for very long. Now out west, where you get 1OO F temps. for days and weeks on end, sure. Flake wax mixed in and/or over bone dry dirt and allowed to melt, by using the sun's rays, will work out there. HOWEVER, try that in much of the Eastern U.S. and you may be somewhat disappointed. It is pretty much a "hit or miss". By buying your wax in 60 lb. blocks and melting it in a galv. tub heated SLOWLY (using a double boiler and a propane tank/torch set-up is my personal favorite) you can then SLOWLY pour the HOT WAX into another tub of bone dry dirt you have waiting close. Wear heavy rubber gloves and "hand mix" the mixture, pouring in more wax as needed. This takes a little practice, but once you get it, YOU GOT IT!!! Once the mixture cools, it can then be put in storage containers for use out on the line. Don't let anyone tell you need to spread out dirt and sprinkle flake wax on it, then wait a little while, mix, then sprinkle more wax...Not!!! Try my way and you'll NEVER, EVER go back! By the way, did you know that trap wax, and I mean all trap wax, is a petroleum based product? Few people realize that! The only other wax available is pure bees wax, which by the way, does not make good trap wax because of the honey residue throughout it.
