Here's the deal-- as a trapper and amateur woodcarver, I am in the market for some basswood, preferably directly from a sawmill that deals in it. That way, perhaps I can get it sawed in the dimensions I need.

I am leaving in a couple of weeks on a trip to the East and upper midwest. I will be travelling through Michigan, northern Wisconsin and northern Minnesota during the month of June. I understand that those are the area's that most basswood comes from. I will be staying several days in The Au Gres (North Saginaw Bay) area of Michigan, and another week at Lake Gogebic in the extreme western U.P., in the Wakefield/Ironwood area. Basically any place from Southern Michigan to N.W. Minnesota will be O.K., if it isn't too far off my intended line of travel.

What I need is specific information, such as phone numbers, website/email addresses of sawmills in your area that I can contact the operators directly to have it sawed and waiting for me when I arrive there.

If you know of a mill in your locality that deals in basswood lumber, if you would be so kind as to get a contact number for me, it would be greatly appreciated. I have tried google, and even though there are a million basswood sites, none that I have found are any help. You may PM me with info if you wish.

Thanks tons in advance. Ray.

Being you said "Pretty Please" what are you looking for? I have a bunch of Basswood trees and some basswood lumber stored inside and dry. I also have a buddy with a woodmizer portable mill-he can make whatever you want.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Ray,

My brother, Joe Jewett, runs a woodmizer sawmill in north, central Minnesota and specializes in basswood. His website is Joescarvingwood.com and phone number is 218-845-2832. I am sure he will help out if he can.

Got some in Maine.
To far to ship - it would cost too much.

It makes "the best" strechers and
also great duck decoys & fishing plugs.

How much you want? If you want to stop by I will cut down a couple of trees and we can load the back of your truck.

Many sawmills will have basswood, especially in WI and MI. MN is more pulp oriented so we don't have as many hardwood mills, more pulp mills. It would probably pay to shop around. The one I can think of off-hand is Kretz Lumber.

Good luck.
