ummm..always leave the tail on the pelt of everything but beaver, possum and rats.and for the guys who have them , nutria.

the tails have to be split to safeguard and against spoliage to the pelt.

IF IDIOTS GREW ON TREES THIS PLACE WOULD BE AN ORCHARD !

Leave tails on. Occasionaly you may catch a coon without one or you may make a mistake and accidently lose a tail. Fur buyers don't miss a tail or two but I am pretty sure you would be docked if they are all minus tails.

I sure am glad too. Glad we aint got to put them nutria tails up. They are hard to peel and even harder to pin out.

You can't fix stupid, but you can vote!

Leave on. An occasional docked/missing tail doesn't seem to hurt but I'd not make a habit of cutting them off.

If you use wire stretchers instead of wood you can spread the tails out with a paperclip to help them dry.

Yes, You can also cut some 1/4" plywood a little wider and longer than the tail, then cut some hardware cloth (hail screen) a little wider than the plywood say 3" wider. Now you can sandwich the tail open between the two (fur to wood hide to wire)and wrap the extra wire around wood ends to hold in place.

Not practical for large #rs but makes em look nice and dry fast.

I use almost all wood now though.
