I am refering to dirt hole sets. What do you use to apply lure to a dirt hole?

I use a metal tong boiled in a strong brew of evergreen foilage and creek water for 7 hours and waxed with smoking hot trap wax three coats. Just kidding. Paste bait goes in smeared round the hole with a stick, super range the same way, caprock call i just pour some down a punch hole, misery breaks i stick a small rock in the jar and toss it down the hole and gman red fox i use a weed stem bout like a blade of grass to wipe it on a rock, a good frend of mine uses a long teaspoon but he is strictly a paste bait man.
none

Funny you mention that Cletis. Have you even noticed that after a day of setting and baiting traps you go to pick your nose and WOW!!! That's an eye opener! lol

i just find a small twig and dip it in the lure and get it into the absolute bottom of the dirthole. if i am putting bait into the dirthole i get it into the absolute bottom and put the lure on the rim of the dirthole. In the areas i trap i have seen no problem with the yotes not working the sets. we do not have the competition our northern trappin bretheren contend with so it may not work up that way. It works well here.
Bic, i have noticed that and can find no logical explanation as to why we must sniff our hands after getting lure on them. I think i am as attracted to some of these lures as the critters are.

I use a Q-Tip so after a catch, I can easily find them and sniff to make sure what lure I took the animal with. That is what I have found to be the best record keep tool for lures out there. I use to use a stick, but always had problems finding them in the pre dawn hours after a catch as the dirt hole is full of everything from dirt and grass to poop and pee in some cases. When I am not testing lure, a lot of times I will still use a twig, but if I am mixing them up, I will always use the Q-tip.
