i was looking at some fleshing setups on here and i see one that i want to use but i have a question. this is the set up

and my question is when you flesh is your hide the whole way around the board? if so do you have it around the board then just put the board back against the wall with the hide between the board and the wall? i know its hard to understand. but when i flesh i always have the hide on the board and the side im not fleshing is in the back of the board. do you just do the same thing with this set up? any pics of hides on the beam and with someine fleshing them? if you have any questions about what i mean just ask. and my other question is what if the beam isnt long enough to sit on the floor. would you just put a 2x4 in the back of it and hinge that to floor? any info on tis set up is greatly appreciated.
-Thanks

I may have missed something but is this a verticle or horizontal board?

Look up Howards videos he does a very good vertical demo on them for coons, using a smaller scale beam than that.

Probably answer most of your questions just watching it

its a vertical setup livetrap. thanks for the idea gritguy i already watched his videos and they did answer some of my questions but they cant answer this question because his beam doesnt lean against another board like this setup does. maybe you just didnt understand my question.

I can't help you with it I don't use a vertical setup, I find it to hard on my upper body at my advanced state of age LOL

However I would just use the board the same way and not worry about the hide being pinched between the boards if thats your worry.

How do you keep the pelt from being pulled down while fleshing?

thats sorta what iwas thinking to gritguy just using it like you would regualarly and not worrying about it. livetrap you could put the nose over the toop of the board or you could do what m. howard does and puta nail in the top of the board and put the nail through the nose of the pelt.

I have never dropped my fleshing knife, but if I used this setup and dropped my 16" Sheffield, I think I would lose some toes, or a kneecap or another appendage I'd rather not lose!

The pelt goes over the board, the second board in back will clamp down on the pelt when you push it back.

I use a system just like the one you have pictured. And it works great for me.
I flesh every thing muskrats, coons, beaver on it.
Once you get the hang of its great.Alot easier on the lower back!
You just pull the beam foward and slide the hide down, then the spring will pull the beam back into the position shown in the pictures.
If the hide slides to far down you can put the point of the beam in one of the front leg holes.
I'll be glad to try to answer any other questions you have.

The three T-man members who those units belong to use them! Those illustrations were in my post on fleshing beams. The member's names are cited next to each photograph in most cases.

I might suggest that you find their names and send them a PM.

It is the Blue english fleshing set up , I have had one for 5 years now , put coon over the beam back facing you ,flesh ,rotate 1/3 of a turn flesh , rotate again then your done ,m the two small pieces of wood on top of the beam are your pinch points to help hold the coon or what ever critter your fleshing on the board tight .Very easy on the back and wrist , and there knife is great !!

Towandatrapper is exactly right, thats the blue english fleshing system. I've had one for about 6 years, flesh all my coon and beaver on it. Their knife is awesome (the blue one). The blue english system is somewhat pricey if I can remember but I'm not much of a craftsman so instead of making one like it I just bought it after some considerable thought and I am glad I did!! I trap for a hobby and at the time I had a pretty good coonhound and put up all my fur with the blue english beam. I did coon like towandatrapper does and I put up beaver basically the same way, you need to have a section of hide in between the pinch points then flesh away, once clean rotate to a piece of hide you have not fleshed yet. Keep going until you're done.
