what are the measurments for coon sizes

i would like to have them in piles of small 4x.
is this better profit wise or is it better to let him sort through all of them.
i will be selling next friday. any help to improve my overall profit would be appreciated. i have 68 hides all green and brushed.

I buy grease hides on the same scale as dry hides. Won't make any difference in your price if you grade them out in different sizes but, you will at least know what size skins you have.
They are sized from the nose to the but normally. I generally grade to where the skirt squares off at the bottom of the hide, if they are skinned right. If they are cut to high, I deduct that amt. off of the length. Once you start getting to much belly fur on your skirt, then you are cutting to high.

the money cut, imo, dds length to the fur if its stretched right after sinning.

as a matter of fact i know it does because we use the money cut and gain length on our coon without adding belly fur. you gain more length on the larger coon than on the small using th money cut.

heres how we stretch ours after skinning them using the money cut.

can you show me where the increased belly fur would come from in that put up? we actually trim off excess belly fur and the entire hind legs and gain at least, on average an inch, sometimes as much as 3inches per pelt, depending on the size of the coon.

the added length is the length from the pin at the bottom of the hind leg to bottom edge of the fur on the board.

You ever leave the legs fur on Cathryn? Mine are pulled down next to the extra flap of fur. The local guy liked it that way but I'm shipping to NAFA for the first time this year and will cut the legs off if it's going to be an issue.

we never leave the back legs, if you want to you can but i think it makes the pelt look better without the backlegs and Jerrys been doing it that way for years. theyre gonna measure your coon hide to the first cut and when ya take off the back legs the way weve stretched them that first cut is 1- 3 inches or so longer than it would be with the back legs on the pelt.

you can leave them on without it being an issue. alot of its personal preference on the part of the person whos putting up the fur.

i do know that if you stretch them the way we do you will get added length and therefor you'll get more for your fur.
imo.

A good experienced grader can tell just by looking at a green pelt about where it will be when stretched, or he won't be in business very long..... It takes many years of learning to get there, RIGHT DON????? You are there!

. Don, you hit on a very good point.
Some people "Open" a coon with a V-cut way up on the belly but they get too much belly fur on their backs (trying to increase the length) but it wont fool an experienced buyer. The fur on the belly is no where close to quality of the fur on the back. They are just fooling themselves and calling it "The Money Cut" but it really isn't that either.

The "Money Cut" runs just about straight across from one pad to the other, no more, no less.....following the natural change of fur along that line. (on fully Prime critters). Early Coon just won't have that defined line....
But we knew that b4 - Didn't we!! he! he!

Sorry about being so late in responding Tex A but I just have not had a lot of time to be on tman as of late and lots of things get past me.
Yes you are correct Tex.
Cathryn I never cut my back legs off of my pelts. I just stretch them different than you do.
