I got a nice big beaver yesterday under the ice but when I cleaned and dried the pelt there is a couple of spots that its hair is matted badly the guard hairs seem ok but the downy hair is in clumps over a area the size of a soft ball I brushed the pelt spending lots of time on these areas and then washed it in cold soapy water but they don’t seem to want to brush out. The little hair balls are not sticky if you pinch them you can squeeze a little water out.
Does anyone have any ideas what I could try to help appearance of the pelt?
Thanks 4 Now

The only thing you can do is pick the matted undefur apart very carefully. Canances are that the beave is going to be a slt at best.

You may try using the no tangle stuff you buy for kids hair you spray it in and let it set a little then comb it out....

You can also buy a no tangle liquid at a Fleet Farm or horse tack supply store that is cheaper than buying people type hair sprays. This is if you have a bunch of pelts to detangle in your fur take. This no tangle spray is good also for removing burrdocks , sticktites and other seeds that bunch up a furbearers fur. By putting this on the affected area and leaving for awhile most problems will brush or comb out without any hair pulling out. You can let dry or rinse sprayed spot and when dry fluff up and fur usually will look like rest of pelt. Good Luck

mane & tail shampoo and conditioner is the best for that stuff, usually you can get it at k-mart, it's made for horses, but as of the last 5-6 years women have discovered how good it is for thier hair.
