Yes sharpen the knife..mine is razor sharp..you may only need to steel it to get the edge back on.Are you using it with the bevel up? The spots will melt off and be fine.

Yes, beveled side up to get started. ok,it just sounds like a sharpening job is in order.Once you do more you will get the feel for it.Angle of the knife is also key.

Let's keep this going for a while as I can use some advice as well. I have been using my Necker 600 for a decade or more now. I never touched it for the first say 3 years or so as I heard a lot about not ruining the edge etc. I probably did 250-350 coons with just using a steel and wiping the knife clean.
As I have done more and get more familiar with the knife and have done more coons I started to do some work with the edge. Here is what I am currently doing. Periodically on the inner curve or dull edge I very lightly run my CamNu sharpner over the edge, say every couple dozen coons. I also clean the edge after each coon. On the outer sharper edge I put more pressure on the CamNu sharpener and create a sharper edge which I also clean after each coon. I find this to work quite well. With this type of edge I only need the sharp edge for the area right behind the ears down to the middle area of the shoulders. I can get the chin and cheek and ear stuff off with the slightly better edge on the dull side. For those that do correct or sharpen their edges what pressure and or tools are you using? I might add this is almost totally coons and not beaver, otter etc. I do all grinners with the Necker but my rats and mink I do with a different tool.
Bryce Sounds goods to me.When i resharpen mine i use a file(flat single cut)The only thing i'll add is i also use mine on beaver, rats, mink ,and otter...the rats and mink i use the dull side.

BBLWI 2,i'm not sure grain/grade i will look when im in the shop and add it to this post later, as for pressure it just enough to take metal off. The angle is kept as close to the original as i can and i do this maybe 3-4 times a year. Just remember i flesh thousands of hides a year.

If you follow above address you will find the tonys sharpeners. The slot on the left fits the necker just right.
