How much do you flesh a possum? When I tried to get through the fat, I saw the hair ends, it didn't seem to slip yet, but do you leave all that on? It seemed like alot to leave on the hide. Also, I assume on females that you leave the pouch on the carcass?

try to put a old sock over the beam and use the dull side of the knife it helps ya have a little padding so ya wont dig into the hide to much

You should never, never, never try to flesh possums without either freezing them or at least chilling them first. possums start to slip about two minutes after you take them out of the trap(just kidding)but it's almost that bad. If you leave the skins outside on a chilly night the fat will set and tighten the skin and you can flesh them the next day and I absodanglutely guarantee they won't slip except possibly under the chin and if you get rid of the loose hair when you take it off the stretcher you won't be downgraded. Try it-you'll like it! Terry

I found a layer of membrane-like substance, then fat, then skin. I pushed the fat of that and then didn't know if I should take off that membrane and next thin layer of fat. When do I stop?
