Coon trapping is more about location/putting the trap where they're going to step than about type of bait or type of set. Like others have said, they're not picky. Pretty much any type of set, with anything that a coon like to eat for bait, will catch a coon if you're on location. Obviously some baits and sets work better than others. but the perfect set with the perfect bait won't catch a coon if you're not on location (and actually, this is pretty much true for all trapping). If you learn to locate good coon location, especially trails, and especially trails where they enter and leave different types of area (such as a trail coming out of the trees into a field, or a trail along a shoreline where the trail enters the water, or a trail on level ground where it meets a steep slope) then your best set is going to be a blind set, the break in type of terrain typically makes it very obvious where they're stepping. and a trap right there will catch them most every time.

Lots of good info in the archives too.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.
