Well…to be on the legal side I thinking 16” BUT I hear some great reports with the 12” too, lol. I won't tell if you don't you running this suppressed though ? That seems to be the main problem. Apparently flow thoughs vs some other types can cause them to really have problems

www.bearcreekarsenal.com has a lot to choose from and good prices for complete uppers, but I've been told that quality is hit and miss. It's probably like everything else....ya get what ya pay for. If you know a good gun shop, they can build you one to meet your requirements. I almost went this route, but it was gonna cost me within $100 to $150 of what the new Ruger American Ranch Gen2 costs new. Plus, I really like the looks and feel of that Ruger bolt gun. Sold! Now, I can leave my 5.56 patrolman's carbine alone.

Doing a barrel swap on a AR is stupid easy. As long as you have a vice and basic armors kit (and I mena basic I have a $275 real avid kit and I barley use 60% of what in it for all my builds) and the ability to watch a 5min video you can do the barrel swap yourself in like 15min. Use the same BCG

If anyone’s converted their AR15 from a 5.56 to a .300ACC what upper did you go with? What is the budget?

Dad and I are running 'Brownell's uppers , pistol length gas 16 inch barrels , that was 2016 so they don't have that model anymore.
300blk is higher pressure but similar speed to 30-30 unlike the fast barrel burners I am not sure you could shoot out a 300blk barrel
maybe but it would take a LOT of rounds
I ran 3 of the Deer season XP 150gr over my chrono 1895 , 1933 , 1929 = 1919 average MV

are you wanting to keep your 223/5.56 in-tact ? I guess I assumed you did.
the bushmaster 5.56 patrolman has a pinned Front sight tower and delta ring I don't think it is worth taking that apart if you want to try some thing your not sure about.
for the cost if you wanted to save money you could reuse the BCG and Mags , do mark them some how like a wrap of tape
an upper , a barrel , nut , handguard , gas block and gas tube most 300blk are pistol length so your carbine gas tube is too long
really the only thing your committing to as 300blk is the barrel and probably gas tube if you decide on something else handguards and receivers are easy to re-use and where most of your expense is

Cannot help on an AR platform, but the 300 BO suppressed with subsonic ammo in my 2 bolt guns are really fun. Foot pounds of energy at 50 yards is similar to a 45acp at point blank range if my memory is correct. This combo has taken several deer. It works great as a youth/new hunter rifle.
