I got a couple coons stuck on wood stretchers and was wondering how you can get them off. I guess i need to start to use belly wedges but out of 40 coon and only two got stuck isnt to bad.
Yes, start using wedges. To get them off, you can turn them upside down and beat the nose on the floor. That should loosen them.

Just hold board up by nose at about a foot off floor and let it fall tail end to the floor when it bounces up usually pops the coon loose to pull off easily or put tail end of board sideways in a vise mounted on sturdy bench use the front leg holes and window to help pull off board Works for me

Might try using a flat tip screwdriver to loosen the head area then do as stated in the above posts....belly wedge is designed to not have this happen... Tom

It has been mentioned above but I will add again use a large bladed flat headed screw driver and pry the nose loose from the board. I use it on almost every coon just to reduce the pressure I need to remove them from the board.
Use split boards and all you have to do when a pelt is stuck like that is remove the 2 screws on 1 side and the boards will come together . Off comes the pelt

************************** ************************ ALWAYS USE BELLY BOARDS when using wood stretchers! ************************** ************************ Bouncing them on their nose is usually the quickest way to get the furs off. Don't be afraid to bounce them pretty hard.
If that doesn't work, then wrap the head and shoulder area of the fur with wet towel and let it set for 30 minutes, then bounce it on the nose again.
Be sure you have all the pins/nails out of the hide. It only takes one pin/nail to hold a pelt on the stretcher.
