I had some time to do stuff today, so I thought I'd go ahead and make up a post about how I make cable related stuff. They are all basically the same concept, just with 1 or 2 interchangeable or different things.
MATERIALS (l to r-double ferrules (nuts can be used as well), J-hook or rivet, your preference of drowning lock-I use L-locks, Pogo washers (the ones pictured are not correct sizes, I do not have any real pogos right now, but just found some old washers laying around), tape measure, GOOD cable cutters (thanks lynxie!), and cable-I use 7X7 3/32 for everything.

POGOS
Step 1-Materials
Step 2-When I make a bunch, I like to make marks on my bench with chalk so I don't have to have a tape measure in the way all the time. In this case, I am making them 20 in., and allow 2 in. for each loop, so the total length is 24 inches.
Step 3-Thread cable through each side of both ferrules and pound flat with hammer, crimp with swager, squeeze with bench vice, whatever you prefer. I've always just smacked em good with a hammer a couple times. Step 4-Put J hook through washer and then through one end of cable loop and close J hook (and weld if you want). In this case, since it is not the right size of washer, I did not close the J hook.
 Finished

DROWNERS
Step 1- Materials
Step 2- First cut to desired length (I use about 8 ft.). Put on lock and make loops on both ends with ferrules like you did with the pogos and hammer shut. That's it. I will then put a J hook through the other hole on the lock and attach to trap. Secure both ends, set trap, and you're in business. Step 3- OPTIONAL To make adjustable drowners, all you need extra is 2 correct size single ferrules. After you put cable through the double ferrules, extend it out and put a single ferrule on the end and smash that shut. Do not close the double ferrules. (Single ferrule is not pounded tight in photo) This allows the loop size to be adjusted to fit your needs.

Step 4-MANDATORY Feed your dog so she stops rubbing on your leg while your trying to make a pictorial.

CABLE EXTENSIONS Cable extensions are mainly used to anchor snares and are tied around a tree or large object and connected to the end of snare. They are very simple to make.
Step 1- Materials
Step 2-Again, mark your desired length (6 ft. is the usually the norm for these). It is just like making a pogo without the washer and J hook or a drowner without the lock. Just 2 loops on the end of a cable. Easy.

That's it guys. Not much to it. Maybe this will inspire some of ya to mess around with making some of your own things now. If not, at least this gave me something to do for a couple hours, lol.
Several hours' work: (Drowners, snares (Newt's, not mine. Wish I was that good with snares, lol), cable ext's, and 2 diff. sizes of pogos without washers+rivets)

Oh, I forgot the last and final step: Check mouse trap in room next to you to annihilate the evil hide-chewing rascals.

young gun-I don't make them. I just buy them from a Trap Supplier that carries them, such as MTP (banner on top of page).
