Visited with Don over the weekend and learned alot.

Class act, pulls no punches and gives straight talk.
He helped me with correct grading of Beaver, coyote, possum talk, coon, etc.
He even gave secrets to the trade (fur handling tips) that will help greatly....Thanks Don for letting me visit and (like I said to you when leaving) I will work for you a couple days next year to learn even more if you would have me.

Here are a few pics......the camera I have is a freebee junker so pics are poor quality.

Don in front of 4 giant bails of finished coon (he didn't want his pic took)...hehe...had to pull him in front of the camera...A rare pic of Don W.

Don showing fur density,etc

Close up of Don's "put up" (bad pic)

Dang, I had always pictured Don as barrel chested, with an even bigger belly, cigar stuck in his mouth, and 80% bald!! Funny the pics your mind can draw of people, when you have never seen them or a pic of them!!!

Looks like you had a nice visit. That is something I need to do, work with someone in the trade and understand the grading process better.

Mister Edd ya got close. funny how a picture kinda brings things to light, isn;t it? To bad the pics did not come out real clear. The coons pictured are really well put up merchandise. Tim the pleasure was all mine. You and your wife are nice down to earth people. anytime you want to stop in, your welcome. I just might take you up on the two day workimg program next season.

Gary I don't know ifin ya jokin or serious. But the window in that coon was plumb up to the penis hole. I kinda don't like windows that go to just under the front leg. Those pictures do not do those coon justice, by any means. Later today I am going to take my digital back there and get a little clearer pic. of the coons and I will take a window picture , just for you.
Some of my windows fall short of the penis hole, but it is not necessary to cut them all that high. As long as the perspective buyer can see and feel the fur, is all that is necessary.

Don i hope ya didnt take it the wrong way ... the coon window in the bottom pic looks like its well below the penis hole .... may just be a dark spot ?!?! .... the reason i was askin is i cut a large window .... Tim has seen how i put up coon .... not sure if he was pullin my leg or not but said it was the best he saw at the auction .... i was just wonderin which way the coon skins were prefered these days .... and was just curious if i was doin em all wrong .... i would appreciate seein sum clearer pix ... and maybe even get a description of each pic so i may better the way i handle my fur

Gary, that bottom picture definatly has the penis hole showing yet. The window does not have to be all the way to that hole, but it don't hurt a thing either. The coon you see pictured was probably from some trapper I bought fur from. Every body has a little different aproach. If and when ya bring or send me some of your fur, then we can talk about your put up.
I would say that if Tim said you had a nice put up, you do have a nice put up.

gary i don't cut a window in my coon. the initial cut that i make is just below the penis hole. then just pin the legs to the edge of the board.

J lord ,I have never worn any kind of cap or hat in my life. The dang things make my head itch. As far as being old, I think 62 is getting to be old. Usually by this time of yr. I feel a lot older than I am.

Don,
I attended the Oklahoma auction this past weekend and one of the buyers told me that you only had to have a very small window in a coon hide. He said it was because the Greeks use every inch of a coon hide. Any opinion on your preference?
Thank you very much on your fur handling advice.

as long as it is not to big and don't get into the flank of a coon, I doubt it makes much difference any way you look at it. You can get one to high. anything above the penis hole is to big. I also don't care for them so small that you have to force the back legs open to look at the fur.
