I thought maybe the trough may make skinning a little easier.

but to answer your question a small flat table is what i use but I have only skinned about 20 in the last two years

trough here. never tried a table. tried the floor a few times and the ground in the field a few times, but the trough beat 'em both, lol.

Trough works real well. Hanging by the tail and case skinning works ok also, just rough lifting them up that high unless you have a boat crank or something to hoist them up, lol.

I use a table. I can see one benefit from using a trough and that's when working around the sides.

What are the dimensions of the "V". 5", 6", 7"???????

creek, mine is deep. 1x10 or 12 less than a 45 degree angle. stands about waist high, but that would be about up to your knees, so you'll need it higher than mine, lol.

Trough does me no good. It slows me down to much. I like to be able to flip and spin the beaver fast when Im skinning. Clean skinning Id say it helps a lot. I rough skin so it slows me down.

I used to skin on a table. Trough is MUCH better. It keeps the beaver from rolling. Mine is nothing special..made of scrap 3/4" plywood and I put it on the table. I'd guestimate it has taken 5 minutes off per beaver skinned.

I made one, built it on a flat piece of plywood and it screws to the top of my turn-table. It works pretty good.

You guys with troughs skin sitting down on a chair?
I tried one It added 10 min to my skinning time LOL
I have a bench with a 2x4 nailed up on edge. It's located right at the front edge of my bench. I pull the beaver up against the 2x4 and just let the hide hang over the edge as I skin. The weight of the hide keeps the beaver In place as I go . When I'm half way I just spin the carcase.
Man If the trough would take 5 min off my skinning time I could skin one In O time LOL

mine are built so I can sit down on any 5 gal. bucket to work on them. The height is just right for me. Keeps the back in better shape while sitting then standing for hours on end skinning a pile of flat tails.I have a foam deer stand type of seat pad I put on the bucket to keep the buttocks from getting those circles embedded from the bucket bottom into your south end permenantly.Talk about a bulls eye. \:\)

Yep BULLS EYE BOB LOl

Hal Sullivan once said It took him a minute per pound to skin a beaver I told him I would hang up my beaver traps If It took me that long. With a 15 beaver day he would never get out of the shed LOL
With the right system and some on hands Instruction and lots of practice anyone on this forum should be able to skin a beaver In less then 8 min with out breaking a sweat.

As I said I use a portable trough and a table, since it is portable you can make it any height you want.Works for me.

I also have used both the trough as well as a table . When I camp out along my beaver line I would take my trough as it was made to stand up in the back of my pickup . Another one I used a lot of was made with a smaller split in the middle but i thought it was more of a pain than anything else .
My favorite is an old kitchen table that I put 4x4 blocks under the feet to raise it up . to make it closer to the same hight as my work bench. where I used dry wall screws through a tarp strap with a hook on just one end to hook the legs of the beaver as I skin them out. Under the table to stand on I used old semi truck mud flaps with the raised bumps to give my feet extra cushion.
Best Wishes, amtrapper
