Hello Trappers: I'm new to this site and I feel quite privileged to be included. I am looking for ideas for a jig to press the grooves for the 'D' ring on home made baseplates. Pictures would be very helpful.

Simply Genius!! Thank you KYBOY. I'll need a heavier duty press.

A bench vise will work.

How much pressure to properly form the baseplates...I have a 10k and 20k pneumatic press @ work, if this is enough, I may make a jig similar to the one pictured.

Oh yea, that'll work....A "good" 6" or 8" bench vise will bend 1/8" flatstrap ok. The bench vise in the pic is too small. I only used it for the pic. A hydraulic jack also works real well with a stand built for it.

Here is my homemade creation ... I use it in my homemade "H" press ... powered by a hand hydraulic jack

I like your idea Mr. Howard! I might have to try something like that too.

Here's the one I've used for several years and it works good too.

To strengthen the base of the trap for 4 coiling and to get a straight line of anchoring from chain to trap. In short, it's beef's them up for tough critters.

I showed a toolmaker at work a baseplate and asked him about making a simple jig for pressing them with a hydraulic press. This is what I got. It will do different length baseplates by adjusting the stop screw. I only asked for simple! It only cost me a couple pops and coffee.
