the Black Spot the Black Spot trapper Registered: 12/25/06 Posts: 739 Loc: east central arkansas	i trap out of a small car with my kids. no room for a pole syringe. i have used them before and they are great for dispatch on skunks. the ones we catch we skin smelly then soak in bakingsoda water solution with an open 5 gallon bucket. you don't get it all but it helps. what about spraying with febreeze? _________________________ the just shall live by faith member: NTA, TTFHA, SWARFTA, NRA

I'll have to make a pole. Do you come in from the side with the needle, behind the shoulder, or try to roll them onto their side to get at the front of the chest?

I prefer the front angle between the front legs and just under the throat. If the skunk is real docile the side shot is just as easy. Here is a pic of my syringe setup. 16 ga. needle and an extendable painters pole. _________________________

I never tried it on the skunk . I don't do them up for 5 bucks .Not worth my time _________________________ It's hard to make a comeback if you haven't been anywhere

After I skin them, I let the hide soak in a pail of peroxide, baking soda, and dish soap for a couple of hours. Then I rinse it real good. When the hide is still wet, it has the skunky odor, but as it dries, the smell seems to pretty much disappear. I skin all my mature skunks. I got $14. for one two years ago at NAFA. Last year my average on those little fellers was just under $10. IMO, they're worth skinning for that. Besides, I hate to throw anything I caught away. The syringe with acetone method works well but I have also had success shooting them in the front of the chest with a .22 short. When done from a distance (15-20 yds.) they ussually lay down and expire without spraying a drop. Im surprised that you are having skunks spray when caught in bodygrippers. Seldom do I have a skunk spray when caught in a body gripper.
