basically, it makes the trap a hair trigger by reducing pan movement.

here is a link to explain nightlatching in more detail... scroll down to #9

For me it is less the hair trigger/short throw because that can be done without the night latch. It is more for a quick, easy, consistent set point where you do not have to carefully watch the dog while you slloowwwlly adjust the pan.

I just like the cool "click" when it falls into place. Other than that it is a waste of time IMO.

I tried the night latch methoed and never really liked it. I replaced all my cat and canine traps with the appropriate sized posi trip pan systems and just love them. With the PIT pans once it is adjusted to the proper tension ect it stays the same. With night latching my pan tension seemed to drift and I was adjusting every season.

I run 0 pan tension and night latch. I modified all mine this season. I love them. I also put hair trigers on them and have been catching a lot more fox.

You can't fix stupid, but you can vote!

Night latching is an easy way to be consistent in your trapping efforts. It gives you a comfortable feeling to know that your trap is set the way you intended it to be. Conistency leads to more efficent quicker setting and more traps in the ground which hopefully results in more fur.
