First, i cut off all the feet


then I cut the gum line all around the mouth


then I cut off the nose and start to peel it back


then cut the tear ducts and eyelids off, peel back


next, cut the ears and pull back


then I hang from the gambrel and pull down over the front legs


once front legs are freed, pull down to the back legs (like a prom dress)


next, free each back leg, cut out the brown hole, watching for the glands, strip the tail..
( i guess I forgot to take a pic of this part)

once the skin is off, then you make the cut from leg to bunghole and split the tail.

then board.



can be done with mink, marten, ermine and otter, although the otter was a pain and I really rather case skinning them..

why that way is it not easer to case skin them from the hind end??

It's cleaner to skin from the mouth than from the back end. No blood drips running down the carcass.

I think it is a bit faster and easier..

I think it is easier to do a cleaner job aorund the face as well

In 1989, I was at the (now closed) Hudson Bay auctions in Toronto, Cannada, I saw the Chinese had skinned their "Russian (or Finnish) Raccoon Dogs",( I think they called them Tunnuki) that way. They had no cuts on their pelts. A work of art, no less!

couldnt find it man ... LOL ... was lookin back on page 4 and workin my way back up ... VERY cool, congrats .... ive never caught a weasel, but i have read that they stain VERY easy ... what timeframe do you have before the fur will bloodstain?

You can do the same with a coyote or a fox. Once you get down far enough you take the shoulders and legs off. Tale the shoulder blade and leg out the mouth down over the ribs and on to the tail. I saw some that were done that way and had to try it.
