I always put up my skunks. Very easy to do just make your cut wide of the vent. The price depends on the market. Minnesota prime skunks put up should bring $5.00-8.00 and more.

I averaged about $5.50 if I remember right. They're not hard to skin and put up, just be careful around the belly when fleshing.

Our fur buyer pays $8 for skinned and salted skunk pelts that are 18" or more, nose to rump with the feet left on.

I put up a skunk last January and I thought it was a lot harder to flesh than raccoon. Anyone else think that skunks are hard to flesh?

I've never put one up yet. I keep thinking I should learn how and quit throwing them away. Just seems like such a waste to toss em.

I think skunks scrap easier than a coon and put up much the same. Back when red fox were $75.00 average here I ditched piles of skunks. Now that I know how to handle them I really regret all the ones I ditched years ago. Back then skunks averaged much the same as today, around $5.00. Some days we would have 20 skunks. Which means I junked $100.00 a day because I was a whoose and didn't want to deal with them. Looking back that was just dumb and lazy.
Now I love them little stinkers.

Too funny ACE TRAPPER! smile

I render them down for a lure base....makes a great one for coyotes. I had it on here a while back....might be in the archives by now. I bet Jonathan in N.Y. could find it!

You can get $10-15 per ounce of skunk "juice" and I normally get 4-5 bucks each hide. It's not really hard

Is skinning a skunk a very smelly job? (like as if he sprayed?)

If you slice the wrong thing...yes. You just have to be careful. Never squeeze or pull to hard.haha All depends on how you handle the essence extraction as well.

Averaged 3.50 a hide for mine. Late feb skunks fur slipping. Sold the essense for 12 an ounce. Will not be a skunk alive this year in my county cause I unlike most are going after them.

Here's a post I made on a different thread recently:

Ugh...last year was my first year trapping. I got a big skunk with great stripes in a boxed 220 that didn't spray. My Dad was always good for helping me skin and he offered to skin it. I took him up on it and got $8 for the fur (not put up).

Here's the rest of the story. In the village where he skinned it, it was legal to dispose of the carcass in the garbage. We skinned it at my Dad's "shop" at the opposite side of town that he and my Mom live on. Well about a week later, my Dad is in the house watching TV on a warm fall day with the windows open when he hears the garbage truck roll up to the house. He doesn't think a thing of it until he is almost overcome with skunk odor from INSIDE the house... The garbage man must have really hated his job that day. We vowed never to put another man through that again. Skunks shouldn't go in the trash if you ever decide to skin one!!
