Use wooden stakes, they hold better than rebar and are free. See my free trap stakes post on the kids forum here. ~ADC~

Explain then, Dead Coyote. The question was what length rebar would you use. I would agree that rebar probably wouldn't be my first choice in sand but that wasn't the question. Even sand varies quite a bit, however. I think 30" to 36" is a good choice in sand, but I would like to hear if any of you have had issues with that length...and why. I would argue that 24" is too short in sand, though.
Alittle further would read that wooden stakes are in fact free (minus time and labor if that has any value to you) and in pure sand, a earth anchor would probably be the best tool (again...wasn't the question). However, I have rebar stakes that are 20+ years old and are in good shape. Thats a one time cost (minimal cost at that) that has saved me alot of time and money over the years. Certain situations still require rebar stakes for coon in my area.

I use all rebar. I use 30" for sand and have never had a problem. I like rebar because I don't leave my coon sets in one spot very long and I can pull them quickly and be on my way.

Question???.........Doesn't soil conditions dictate the length of the stake, have used a single 14 inche in a rock fizzure to a single 30-36 for snare (as wheelers info) I mainly use doouble-staked 18 to 24 rebar in most of my areas , going to disposables more and more but even with disposables soil conditions dictate the length of the cable even double staking disposable sometimes.
If you can make it move , they can too and will spend a lot more time and effort than you.
So use OVERKILL, boys, OVERKILL,
