Had a new customer call. His neighbor is scared to death of a snake she saw in the basement. She wants me to come out. He is worried the snake could be in his basement. They have a nine-year old and his wife is scared too. So I tell him I can come over at 8 PM to have a look. Luckily it's very near my house and snakes don't bother me.

How do you handle a job like this? There is no guarantee I'll even see a snake... How do I price it? Just a bit confused here... Any advice?

Thanks AAA, good plan. I didn't know snake traps were available. This will round out the job nicely.

Are you serious or am I just gullible..?

That was an easy job. The kids were all excited to have a "snake guy" out lol. I did a thorough inspection but didn't find the small garter snake. Will be going back to set a snake trap and seal some holes. We did a fair deal on the inspection but I charged too little on the trap and exclusion part. The snake likely came in through a 1 inch gap in a bulkhead door. Someone had cleared some brush around the area and he likely dove in there for shelter.

Somehow I end up with snake calls every year where the snake gets inside a car. After thinking about it the first tme, I turned the car on, rolled up the windows, and turned the air conditioner on full blast! 10 min. later, hes on the dashboard trying to warm up.

had a lady call me yesterday SCREAMIN at the top of her lungs. She woke up and a 4 1/2 ft black snake was laying on the floor beside her bed. Easy job, could have charged her double and she would have paid it to get rid of that snake but I am not that kind of business man. She was just happy to see it leave.

Hamman, I had a screamer a couple years ago. I had to pry her off the ceiling while on the phone with her. Once I got her calmed down I quoted our standard fee, even though I was right around the corner from her. She didn't have it so I did something I rarely do. "How much you got"? She was just a few dollars shy so I told her I'd be there shortly. A few minutes later I show up and walk around to the back patio (she had told me where the snake was). She screams out a warning from inside the back door as she was watching the snake. When I calmly bend over and tail the six foot grey rat snake I hear another scream and a thud. When I look up my customer is on the floor out cold!

I had another one who thought she should climb up on her NWCO's shoulders when she spotted a garden hose laying in the yard.

Every customer thinks its a BIG snake, but one time it was a 15 footer.

The fear of snakes is totally irrational. Spiders on the other hand are worthy of fear.

I get creeped out by big spiders. Going through a crawlspace requires a little mind prep work before I dig in. After I come out with webbs all over me, I get em off as fast as I can before it gets to me. Mabe im immune to black widdows, cause I crawl over hundreds of them durring the year. I dont think Ive ever been bitten.

woofman, snakes are attracted to heat.the pet rock for terrariums are heated.if there are no other source of heat they will seek out the pet rocks.
when looking for snakes I always look at heated appliances, evaporator coils on fridges, around ceiling lights ect.

A couple of recent catches in a drop ceiling of a basement. Snakes can be caught just about any place they are traveling. Structural overhead areas of basements and garages are prime hunting and resting areas for larger rat snakes in these parts.Floor areas are most typical places for set ups for smaller types of snakes as their climbing potential isnt as well established in structure areas.

Initial inspection, evaluation. Structural seal, search, trapping program and rodent treatment are the recommended steps we employ for all snake jobs.
