Anything Wrong with NOT treating your well greased traps before season?
Targeting Coon & Mink, will have traps pushed down in mud, and have their protective layer of grease on them.
I'm too "lazy" to dip in water/vinegar solution, let them rust, dye them, wax them...... yada yada yada..... IT'S JUST TOO BORING FOR ME!
WILL IT AFFECT MY CATCH?
I know last season I caught a few dozen coons in shiney traps.
SHOULD I BE WORRIED?

AGREED! Gary. That first warm day in the spring, everything gets a good spraying with the power washer. Besides k9 traps, I'm semi-anal about them, probably because I hang with Chaz too much.

In this book I read once it says you have to clean them properly while wearing gloves, and then dye them properly, and then wax them. But you have to wear your gloves to keep human scent off of them. It said if you skip any of those procedures your catch will drastically drop off. So I took it to heart and do it every year, and you should do the same.

Trapping and being lazy should not be used in the same sentence.

My cannine stuff is done the right way. For the rest of the body grips and stuff that I place in the water or in cubbies I just give them a quick wash or boil if I'm doing my cannine stuff. I'd think a rich farm kid would have plenty of time on his to take care of his supplys. LOL.

LOL Like, I said, it's just boring to me. I have a short attention span. If a butterfly glides across the lawn, I'm chasing it, and my traps boil over........ MIGHT give Newt a holler for some F-1, since I FORGOT IT AT THE NTA CONVENTION, SON OF A GUUUUUN!

I don't do anything to mine unless they are K-9 traps. Mink and coon sets? Never. I may spray paint them black to blend better, but that's about it.

I have noticed that untreated traps do fine in water UNTIL the water level drops and they are exposed to air. Then the rust sets in overnight.

Yep, there's something wrong with it, it just don't seem right. Probably get 'em all stolen, too. Other than that, no problem catching dumb midwestern critters, until you set 'em on land and they get bound up with rust.
I'm sure it will work ok with those dumb midwestern coon, but our Pa Coon are far too smart to get caught in untreated traps.

For gawdsake nick you hafta treat them traps who knows what kind of mayhem you may unleash if you buck the traditions established by years of trapping experience. Its just not worth it now put down your fru fru drink, get your feet out of the pink inflatable kidde pool and go get busy with those traps.
Besides how will we ever be able to respect you if we all know you didn't do any prep work on those traps when you are posting all those muddy iowa coon pics this fall
LMAO
