My go-to response when asked why do I trap beavers by someone who seems overly concerned for the beavers is short and sweet.
"I drive the roads where problem beavers dam up the culverts which causes the road to wash out during a heavy rain."
"I do not ever want to be the first guy going down those roads at 45 MPH only to suddenly discover that the road isn't there any more."
Their elevated concern for beavers is always suddenly diminished.
A picture of a recently washed out road would be a good eye opener.
