Posted in the lure making forum but not much traffic there.
So the local guy that used to put my beaver up is done so starting myself and wondering if there's any good formulas to use the fat and meat from fleshing for canine or cats?

Beaver meat is a great bait for many furbearers. Ground up or cut into chunks and freeze for next year's bait in dirtholes. Or give it a slight taint after grinding or chunking. After stopping the taint you can just use that way or put any manner of additives in it. There are many to chose from and some are somewhat species specific. It's all up to you how much taint or if added ingredients are wanted.

Don't throw that stuff out. After I am done with a beaver fleshing session I gather up the trimmings. I use a milk jug with the top cut off to put it in. I throw it in the freezer. Take it out a day before setting for fisher , etc. I don't mix anything with it although you could. I just use a good call lure like gusto. Works great. It's real fatty and doesn't freeze easily.

Do not know what will become of it yet but took fleshing crammed in a quart canning jar flipped the lid upside down in the ring so would not be air tight seal place it on propane gas stove/fireplace to cook out the ooils fat to use later as lure/ lure ingredients. Figure sludge will be run through grinder and made into lure

I’m making beaver tail oil, but the video I saw the guy tossed in more than tails. A kinda chopped into cubes. The jars lid is screwed on loose with cloth under it and left in the sun for a few months. Nice black oil on top when it’s done, and the other stuff underneath can be frozen and used for attracting whatever or tossed.

Beaver scrapings are tremendous dog food if you have a pack of hunting dogs.
I’m not in bear country, but it would make some great bear bait I reckon.
