Why not just use foot holds for them. Would have to check them every day in addition to the new regulations on them as well.Gas bill would be crazy. With the conibears I can run one line one day.A second line the 2nd day and a third line the third day.

Well that goes against what the experts say. NYDEC biologists say where there are high fisher populations there will be few marten. Looks like you are catching good numbers of both species. They both are going to be where the food is.They both feed on the same things, small mammals, squirrels, mice, shrews, rabbits, certain mass crops like beach nuts, acorns, etc., carrion.

Going to start making some boxes for the smaller 5 inch or under conibears.Just wish we wasn't limited to a 7 1/2 inch opening for the spring slots.I would just cut the slots from the front of the box back 19 inches.

Nice.Just to bad with the 7 1/2 inch spring slot limit I could make a straight box with no hinge in the box.Just simply cut your slots 19 inches from the front of the box.I was planning on making them that way untill I saw that rule.

[quote=ebsurveyor] I would make this the only part making it 24 inches long.Cut the two spring slots back 19 inches and hinge the front board with the diamond shaped entrance hole on the front.

Surprised you're catching them in the same area. Wonder why Alaska doesn't have many Fisher. What was your average on the Fisher and marten? Once in awhile a Fisher will dine on one of my caught marten.I usually catch the Fisher on the next check.

I stopped trapping Fisher when the prices dropped, Last Fisher I trapped brought 250.00. As much as I love Fisher & Fisher trapping, I just can't see trapping them for 30.00. I'd rather feed em & watch on trail cams & camera's. Mink & Fisher were always my passion to trap, just can't see killing them for these prices. On top of that, New York State DEC changed the season to nov. 1-30, way to early to trap Fisher.

Any cats up your way Bruce? The animal rignts activist used the "endagered canadian lynx" to get the laws changed which now require exclusion cages on conibears among other limitations.

That's the style box I make as well I make them 24 or 25 with my spring slots at the back of the box. The only issues I have found is you need to use smaller bait so your trap doesnt hit your bait as it fires. Especially when it's frozen. The other problem is occasional bad catches on fisher where they are caught by the top of the head or snout. The boxes with the hinge in the middle make up for this but you will occasionally have a frozen fisher that you will have to take the entire box home to thaw out in order to remove it from the box. Every style has its disadvantages. This is what I do for fisher with 120's. Trigger on the bottom, back jaw & pointed at the bait. that has eliminated snout/head catches. IMO, triggers on the bottom pickup more weasels & marten. Nice share Butch, thanks. That is basically how I used to set all my small body grips for fisher. Mac

My triggers I had a little differently.I like mine on the top bent very wide and outward away from the conibears. This way the bigger Fisher could get his head further into the smaller coninears when they grab the bait and lift their head.I get a lot of neck caught Fisher and suitcases on the marten and smaller Fisher

I still catch some weasels but it was amazing how those bigger male Fisher could get their head further into the conibear with my triggers this way.
