As I thin out my possessions; I realize I can't bring all my guns to my tiny new temporary apartment. First off: No room. Second (as if I care) no guns allowed per lease agreement.

My options, as I see them are:
  • gun auctions
  • dealers
What thinks you? one better than the other?

I have a dealer that will come to me, and make a cash offer for the lot. The auctions require lots of mileage, and time, for an unknown outcome.

From my description, I think you know how I am leaning.

Maybe I can up the value by sending a few to Wolfdog for fresh paint. Actually that might also expand the market to places like San Francisco.

If you don't really need the $$, can you store them at a family/ friends place securely?

You have nothing to lose by having a dealer take a look. Good luck!

For a quick sale 60% would make me happy.
The auction results that i've seen seem to be around 80%

Don’t know much but I find another temporary lease. If that’s all you can find to rent I leave the guns with a friend and take your time selling them. Never heard of a lease with a no gun clause. Agree with having a dealer look at them. Can always say no sale.

Agreed. I just don't have near enough contacts. Nor do the usual social media outlets allow them.

Where I'm going leases are hard to come by. Family and friends have all offered until they realized the scope ( pun somewhat intended.) Surprisingly, I do look forward to downsizing a bit.

See if you can find a auction near you that sells Firearms with bidding on the internet.
The people go absolutely crazy bidding on them.
I sold one back in January at auction, a 22 rifle. I originally bought it for $60.
It sold for $180, and after auction fees for pictures etc. I got $150

Here about every 2 weeks they auction firearms, and every few months they have around 5 pages of them.
It is a special firearm auction.

Good luck. ............ A dealer will only give you about 60% .... or less ..... I know as I used to be a firearm dealer !

Lampi Auction in annandale 100%. Drop them off and they will get you good $ for them. They have a gun auction going currently so I'm unsure when the next one is but you'll get what they're worth and you only have to drop them off.

I can't remember what part of the state you are but I know a few reputable dealers. Shoot me a PM if you like and I can give you some contact info. My suggestion is to not let anyone "high grade" your collection. Make it all or none and CASH.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I have a dealer that takes 10% you set the minimum price you will take.

you get paid when they sell

if you don't have people you can trust to store or hep you , then a dealer that does consignment would be good

We have a local gun shop where.ypu can put your own firearms on consignment at your own price. The gun shop gets a little commission from the sale. Not sure if there's anything like that around you, may be worth doing if you had some high dollar firearms like Citoris or LC Smith doubles

The buyer buys them from you online, then you send them to his local FFL dealer.
Probably your best prices. I would not go the route of selling them to a dealer unless you want to leave a substantial amount of money on the table.

Selling the low end guns at a local "junk" auction will generally bring you more than the guns are worth, except that many of those auctions charge ridiculously high selling commissions; often times 25-35%.

ATF has reinterpreted the law again. They just killed a man in AR for private gun sales. The thugs want every sale to go through an FFL. Gun show would be the last place I would private sell.

I believe that new Executive Order goes into effect May 11th, so only a couple of weeks away.

Yep should have done an on-site auction. Guns get stupid prices fast at auctions. Saw a marlin 30-30 bring 2 grand at auction. Nothing special or different. Same gun new was about 900

I'm curious, what has improved so much regarding the potential for crime that you no longer have a need for the guns you acquired for home defense and conceal carry. Moving to a gated community, or going to prison? frown

There is no good way to sell guns It is like trying to auction off your children Or parting with your vital organs to the highest bidder I would go with an auction It would make it one transaction in the end Generally if you have a number of items to sell you might get a little bit of a break on the commission charged And if you sell the complete amount that you have to sell you realize that you need to see the big picture By that I mean some will sell for more than you thought and others will go for less But it all comes out in the Wash when it is added up

I glossed over it, but, I could care less about some stupid clause that includes guns, candles, meth, etc. The fact of the matter is there just ain't room.

What? can't bring guns to prison? I'm not selling everything. Just the 80% that ain't essential. When the house is complete, I'm sure my hoarding tendency will kick back in.
