Howdy there folks,

I have been tossing around states in the lower 48 where I would like to trap one day...

I think I would like to go to Wyoming and try to hammer away at some pretty western coyotes, or maybe a New England state where I could have a marten and fisher line...

Where would you go and why? If you have more than one state and species, go ahead and list them all!

If you are young and in good shape your most productive trapline in the north will be a trapline with a high beaver quota.
You get a good beaver line then you will have a line that produces a ton of other good fur.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Wisconsin can meet every test you can come up with. Stay there. Scout more properties to trap. It’s all there if you look for it.

Never too old to learn

The most productive gold mines are in your own back yard.

Really never thought about the lower 48. I always wondered about northern Canada or Alaska.

Looking for an adventure or to make money?

To make money = head south. But first learn how to catch beaver in numbers from steamy, southern swamps.

You'll make more off the service charge than the pelts. But the current pelt value will pay the bills.

Forget about trapping bob cats in Nevada unless you plan to move there. Not open to non residents.

Maine is a good marten and fisher state once you get north of Bangor where the Appalachian mountains run through. Once the snow and cold hits It's kind of like a "Diet Alaska" lol

Why not go to ND they have tons of rats and they have some great well furred coyotes. And the river systems are loaded with beaver. And those Red River mink are the size of a small otter. And then you have lots of skunks and badgers to trap.
I think for a nonresident Alaska would be a tough place to trap. I have family there and I wouldn't even consider trapping there.
I trapped the south for 12 years. If you can't catch 300 beaver In 2 months time your no trapper. Then for every beaver there are always lots of otter to catch. And the bob cat population Is good. The fur Isn't of great value but the numbers will make up for It. I don't know If there Is still a live market . But I made some big bucks when I was there.
Leaving your home range Is always a big under taking and It won't be easy and It won't be cheap.
