Anyone use 160’s in cat boxes or cubbies much? Was wondering if you favored a pan for them to chin on or triggers together all the way over to the side? I saw several cat tracks this year along muddy beaver flows and in my tracks from the previous day. Thought about slapping in a few next year.

Many in MN take cats in 160 cubbies. But cubbies tend to perform best in inclement weather. Colder and deeper the snow the better.
Raising the box is a benefit. I prefer pans in cubbies but many just manipulate trigger wires.

X2

Pans or wires close together for a chin rub are both good. If a pan you want it angled up a bit. When using just trigger wires you want them spread about an inch apart and in the center (on bottom) & angled back. Bait should be 3-4 inches beyond the 'chin rub' & secured there

I have cats reach in with a paw a lot into shallow cubbies. Have caught more than one with MB 160's by a front foot.

Yes. Coon are good at that too. The fisher not so much.

Here in PA our triggers have to be 7" back from the opening of the box. This eliminates a lot of the paw grabbing concerns for us & helps with the animal jaw grabbing most of the time smile

If non targets weren’t something you had to worry about and you weren’t constricted by law would a 280 in a cubby be more ideal then a 160? I was thinking about playing with a few cubby boxes for cats next year

Personally I think if your law allows it I would with as big of a body gripper as you can. Here the 220 is what most use. But if you can get a cat to try to get through a 160 the trap would have a better placement on the cat.

The size of your opening, how far your trap is recessed, height off the ground of your opening is, etc. all affect how each species reacts to committing.

If laws allow, animals bigger than marten i'd use 220 size
