Ok, since you have all of the knowledge to criticize every incident of LE shootings. Let me pose these open questions to you:

Have you ever been a Cop?
Have you ever been in a shootout with folks trying to kill you in LE
Have you ever been in the military in a combat role?
If so did you fire your weapon?

If you fired your weapon and didnt hide in amongst the combat confusion, did you follow up to see where every freakin round you sent downrange landed?
If not, then why?

You talk so much crap about this subject, I want to know how much of it have you been in.

Yep. But we all read the posts and some are stabbing to our personnel situations thus is the internet. My entire family is running a 5k this Saturday for a officer who was killed by a shot to the face. Not on the news. No riots. Not a darn thing on this site. I get it but some who served don't.

Dave, I know of no one else that has endured soldier fighting experience as often as you have, with no "behind the line" breaks , as even the guys in the middle east have some of the time.

No one can appreciate what you have endured, and experienced for decades in protecting us in this country, except some other men who are your mates in battle , as you have been, and are. To expect that anyone can relate , without being there themselves, is fantasy. If they huff and puff to say they do, you know where that is from also.

I respect and thank you, as I do all our vets, abroad and domestic employed, to protect us in this wonderful country.

I just have always worried that you say safe and always stay diligent in your day to day routine as you work.

I saw this shooting as a tragic mistake. Nothing more. A high speed chase with an armed man who had already killed someone….I’m glad I wasn’t put out there on the firing line on this one.

If you have never held your partner or buddy who is dyeing and been shot, you just dont know how it feels. if you havent seen his widow and children at his or her funeral, you just dont know. If you have never had to administer aid to a friend or partner that you know is in the process of death, during a firefight, then you dont know. I know in this life these images will never go away. If you dont know. then stop gathering rocks to throw everytime the media pipes up about a LE shooting. If you are without sin, by all means cast the first stone. Not a single one of us fits into that category.

I disagree that anyone in this country has no right to his opinion.

Can’t win with alotta folks. Years ago, WPS tazes a teenager who rushed him with a blade. Kid dies hours later of heart failer….system was loaded with meth. Mom says he’s a good kid with a baby, he turned his life around. Why didn’t the cop use his gun and shoot him in the knee?
I’ve got a few friends at work, the rest are mostly LEOs. Cousins that are LEO. Buddy asked me to quit my job and get on with WPS, he knew the HR guy well and could help me out. I’m so glad I didn’t do it.

There are bad cops but by the rhetoric you would think all cops are bad. If the rhetoric gets frenzied enough it just gets good people hurt. After the county judge lost his bid for re-election my wife went to work for the sheriff's department. She could be deputized, but being just a few years from retirement she decided it wasn't that important to be deputized especially with being tazed being a requirement. Lol. She does get to see that those pillars of society, sex abusers, check in as required. I would hate to think that because of rhetoric she would in any way be harmed. I would hate to think what I might do as retribution. I hope I'm never put in that position.

No, but I did start down that career path after leaving the service. Got as far as interviewing with a couple departments. But a sit down heart to heart about the true nature, both political and criminal, of policing in Birmingham Alabama with a couple serving officers in the dept that I considered good friends and one that had quit rather than take a bullet for refusing to look the other way convinced me otherwise. Google Mayor Richard Arrington's daughter and Police Chief Artie Deutsch though I doubt any of the articles will mention the crack house there should be enough to stink to high heaven. The one who quit did fill me in on what she was doing on her knees. Silly me thought policing was to help those in need.

No, but I have been shot at. I have also been in a position to draw my weapon in expectation of and have taken a subject into custody, believed to be armed, into custody. Working as armed security in govt housing. Also present when a colleague in conjunction with B'ham PD got into a dust up, two officers and him came under drive by fire. All three returned he connected and got hung out to dry. He was a retired MP, former federal game warden, fully trained but retired.

Why yes, four years US Army. While not in a combat arms MOS I was however assigned to a rather unique Combat Support Engineer company in direct support of 2ACR. So in effect we trained and served on the 1k line on the west German/Czechoslavkia border. Fortunately the closest we ever came to a hot war was nabbing a SMLM team trying to infiltrate near Vilseck. But we trained nine months out of the year to go to war.

Never a need to fire in anger. Did have that conversation with myself though. I'm cool with it if need be.

And for the last, since it never happened I can't honestly say what my reaction would be. Who knows I might have soiled myself but I guess I'll never know. But I got a sneaking suspicion based on those handful of high stress tunnel vision sensory deprivation situations I have experienced and the active training I was taking at the time that I might have handled myself well but then we'll never know now will we.


But most importantly I am of the ruling class in this Republic known as WE THE PEOPLE. You see it is We who decide policy in the Republic through our exercise of the ballot. And many of us have quit looking the other way.

I apologize if I offend but I've been stewing on how I have to explain myself when a uniform means you don't have to.

We all know many professions that see, and do, horrific things. Professions we absolutely require to have any sort of reasonable society.

But it's not limited to just the blue. But somehow the blue and"back the blue" have become an almost religious touchstone on the right.

Fact of the matter we are all of a community, all playing a vital role in a somewhat functional whole, yet certain groups, mostly those paid out of the general budget, wish to be held to a different standard and deserving of a certain level hero worship.
