Well guys, it happened. I educated a big adult beaver. Went to check the line and had 3 toes in an otherwise empty duke #5 dls. What are your surefire educated beaver techniques? It is in a small creek maybe 10 foot wide. 2 well established but flowing dams. Haven't found any bank dens as of yet. Thank you all.

10' wide doesn't sound too deep. Look for any spots to put 330's ?

Till that day.....

Reset the trap, make sure you have good pan tension, water deep enough to drown, and cover the trap well. You don't know yet it he smartened up.

Better to miss it with a foothold than a conibear. Conis they can wise up to quick when missed.
I'd use 330's in deeper runs with none of the trap above water.
If you used castor at the set you lost it in, don't use that at the next set. Use sac oil, poplar branch or maybe a food lure.

Sounds great! The creek is 10 foot wide and plenty deep to drown. Going to switch from my dls to a ts85 or bridger 5 special coil spring to reduce the trap bed size a little also. The dls have pit pans so tension shouldn't have been an issue but it was evidently. Creel is 4 foot plus deep where I'm drowning them.
