Yeah they look pretty dang stupid.
They're supposedly a new OSHA requirement. Can't say for sure, just going from what I've been hearing.
Lots of companies are going to these because of the chin strap. They won't come off in a fall.
The company I work for is discussing going to them.
I hope not, I'm pretty partial to the old bridge hat I've been wearing for 30 years.

this is really not new Petzel has been making this style of hardhat for decades
it is very common in other countries
and common with climbing tree crews

https://www.treestuff.com/petzl-vertex-vent-ansi-helmet/

also not that far off the tactical helmets either
https://tachelmet.com/products/fast...voE1S8uN14WmimhNUnWo_ld3VLxoC-wkQAvD_BwE

I think a bigger improvement would be improved hearing protection and communication built into the helmet , there are some available it would be nice to see more.

What about the sun and rain protection? Might be O.K. for indoor wall climbing?

You look up The owner of this company, I bet anything he is a Biden supporter and contributed big money to Biden campaign. Only reason to make a change on long established OSHA hard hat rules. MD

I had to wear a hard hat on some jobs, always amazed me these college educated idiots think a $8 hard hat is going to make a big difference. I was around a lot of crazy scary things in the demolition sites, heavy drop boxes that defy gravity. Use your head, don’t trust a helmet.

Wouldn't mind something similar to the low cut deal alot of units use. Would be nice to be able to have a few different attachments I can just clip on raise and lower real quick. Mainly just a face shield and muffs for the wok i do.... side mounted light too. Few guys had them on there when I was in. Lil bitty deal give you a white red or IR. Really nice for situations where you need both hands.Would be more of a specialty ting but would be nice . Chin straps can be annoying but their nice when their 40+mph gusts

I wear a similar helmet almost every day. The strap isn't as annoying as you'd assume, I wear the helmet in tandem with foam ear plugs on a plastic neck wrap, fast in and out even with one hand or gloves on. They're light weight and fit well, better than a traditional hard hat imo. We used to run kask but now use a cheaper version of the same thing

When I had a traditional chin strap it was nice when out up in the air when leaning over or reaching down, yet it made it in the trash within a day or two. My pony tail keep them from falling off when upside down when I grew my hair out. There is no way I would wear some elastic strap that wrapped around my neck . I would find a different job or get fired if pushed. So different job either way. And you're correct they won't be worn

Yup, I see that as a potential chock hazard. Surprised no one pointed that out.

Tried one, love it! The battery on the back is heavy but I’d take it off as it clips on easy when you need a light. looks better than the stupid bubbles from the 80s we have. Can’t use them yet cuz ain’t certified. Super comfortable and doesn’t fall off your head when you look up. but this Crown corp also has to get by the $$$ value for a piece of PPE that protects your noggin.

The chin strap would bother me some but I could deal with that, but that part that goes completely around the neck would drive me insane. Hooded sweatshirts get a v cut in the just for the reason I can’t stand them bunched up and touching. Soon as these companies insurances start throwing them
Discounts we’ll all be wearing them. Can go in 2 years and maybe I’ll wait 4 or 5 more before throwing in the towel but every time they change something and it’s not liked I think I’ll go in 2 years.

Although wearing it all day is a pain, heavy and hot compared to the newer hard hats mentioned above.

We switched over to the helmets 3 years ago. I got a lot of push back off the start but now that everyone is used to them i don't hear much.
They are not an OSHA requirement, but i do see more and more construction companies going to them.
