Looks like you did real well . I never caught one so I have no idea how much work that would be But I have made a few sets over the years .And just getting your gear to your trapping area can wear you out Remember when the season limit was 10 or maybe even less here in PA ? Also now a days 13 muskrats in a single season is a great year

Lots of folks trapping beaver this year here in western Pa. I had a guy come and set up on top of me back in February. Less than 40 feet from my sets. He had to know I was there, fresh snow on the ground. Two other spots I normally hit had already been trapped, two others were actively being trapped. Thankfully, didn’t have anything stolen.

I notice you did the otter fur side out. I used to see a lot of Alaskan otters done that way. Nice season and obviously you went to some trouble to have the season memorialized with that great picture.

Thanks for sharing!

It was put up flesh side out. I got it back from the tannery a few days ago.

Wow great photo and catch. Can you tell us what kind of miles you had to cover on your line to make a this high of beaver catch ? I would think it would be a 100 Square miles to have that many beaver houses to make a catch like this ? And a lot of water in those 100 miles ? Marty

It’s tough trapping beaver here in western Pa. Not too much beaver water, lots of trappers. I trapped 15 locations, 11 produced beaver. I had five other spots I normally trap that I didn’t set….already been trapped, or had traps set when I stopped. I caught beaver in my home county, as well as three counties bordering it. Also caught some beaver in two other counties at my camp. Any beaver lodge remotely close to the road is trapped, you gotta get off the beaten path to catch many in my area. Find bank beavers that don’t leave a lot of sign.

Last year, I wore my wife’s Fitbit thingy…tells you how far you walked. It showed 321 miles. That season, I caught the same amount…47 beaver and an otter. So I’m guessing I had to walk at least 300 miles again. Wore the bottoms off a pair of Muck boots this season.

I’m 66, it’s getting harder every season. Creek banks get steeper, beavers feel heavier.

Bigbrownie Ilie on the opposite side of the state of PA Even with the low fur prices PA has a lot of trappers I have heard a very well known lure maker and trap supply dealer that attends many of the conventions for a lot of years comment on the number of trappers that live and trap in PA And with prices up a bit on beaver and a very mild winter it was a year for some that maybe trapped a little or not at all in recent years to get back out You can be proud of your catch And you can also be proud of the effort you put into your to accomplish a good pile of hard earned pelts One of the things that attracted me to be a trapper is the more effort you put into it the more the results usually end up being more than the work seems to be The self satisfactions of running a good productive line I am just a few years older than you and in the past 3 or 4 years I have been forced to give up my favorite outdoor activity I have spent many hunting trapping and even fishing along with just going walking taking pictures etc while enjoying mother nature However trapping has been my favorite Well health reasons have ended them all' I am glad for the lifetime of great adventures I experienced and even more thankful for the great people I was blessed to know along the way I miss hunting and trapping every day of the year And it is great that you are still able to do it And even more you have the desire to work so hard at something that you just want to do Thanks for posting and Good luck
