Guys, I had an old Blake and lamb 44 double long gifted to me,, but the springs are so weak they wouldn’t hold a mouse… would a spring from an older #3 victor work.. or would I have to cut the eyes off to fit inside the old spring like the auxiliary springs?

Foxk44, what some trap modifiers did back in the day was to cut the base plate remove the springs and jaws, replace the springs with stronger ones then weld up base plate and add a reinforced base plate usually 1/8' flat stock or larger Popping the jaws out is risky to screwing up the jaw tips and bending the jaw itself. While you are at the welding...put a bead under the pan post and another on the cross piece of the frame.

If the B&L is complete and has a readable pan, you might consider selling it to a newbie collector rather than messing with it. Then buy yourself a newer trap that has strong springs and ready to go.

Save it, it's an antique.
