I caught a black beaver today, my buddy is going to get it mounted. My question is should we freeze it whole to take to taxidermist? Will they case skin it or cut it up the belly like we normally do?

In some places they are pretty common but I have ever only caught one. I had it tanned. I quit doing mounts for most everything. They are expensive and just tend to collect dust. 10 years later they just don't look great. My suggestion would be to tan it.

I have nothing clever to put here.

If I was going to keep it I would have tanned and hooped it. But he wants a beaver mount by his ducks that are mounted!

Make sure it's dry then wrap it very well and freeze it whole until you can get it to the taxidermist. It'll be just fine.

Take it in whole. Let the taxidermists do their thing.

The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never let the dumbest ones lead the pack.
