Years ago, someone put this video on Trapperman.

I think Ken, the maker of the video may be a member. I've seen other videos of crayfish migrations, that usually also occur during the full moon, in the Spring, Summer and Fall.

I have a low area that typically has many thousands of crayfish mounds in it and a large vernal pool. I have 3 good size streams that go into the ground down there. I keep hoping to see the crayfish migrate, so I can catch large numbers.

Have any of you witnessed a crayfish migration?

Any tips on when to look for the migations?

Do the crayfish living in holes migrate too?

Keith

I shot a turkey 2 yrs ago that had 2 big crayfish in his crop. It was in a river bottom, must of been a migration.

Crayfish breeding migrations are definitely real, as are breeding migrations of some species of crabs and lobsters. Some of the other videos on YouTube do show heavy predation. The reason they all run together is to limit predation. Predators can only eat so much. Once the predators are full, the remaining breeding crayfish are safe to reproduce.

Seems like a LONG, flat, wide crawdad trap could be built to fit (or add wings to funnel them) in that little stream of water, could save a lot on your back from bending to pick them up.
