The western select is down $30 from March of '23. Not what I was hoping for. When I get my account update I will fill you guys in on how my 14 lbs of very nice castor did.

And I've agreed with you Steven. But when association sales were talking about $20-25 castor offers and FH had a category for my section of castor that was in the $100 ballpark I figured I had little to lose to send a sample. Looks like you took the bait.

Looks like you took the bait. Could be. LOL At the time I shipped nobody was talking $40/lb for castor. If I would have known that was the price I would get on the rest of it I may not have shipped. But irregardless, testing markets is always educational and something I tend to do.

Got $7.85/ounce during the March/23 sale and now $5.35/ounce. Western #2 not sold yet. so much for their oct forecast of 110 canadian wondering what your 14 pounds 224 ounces graded out percentage wise, all #1 or not

I'll provide full disclosure whenever my account gets updated. The shrinkage was approximately 18% as they show 187 oz of castoreum from me.

I think I do recall that Slick. Didn't disagree then, don't now. Still, an eternal optimist resides within me. LOL Won't be a big deal for me no matter what. I sold the bulk of my castor at the association sales this year.

Carl, at the levels they sold you'll do OK
I still have my castor, been dragging my feet selling them. I may have to raise my outlook 10 bucks.

if you don't sell any what will shrinkage be by next auction? I don't believe they reweigh it or add any additional shrinkage over time. They eyeball it and add the shrinkage arbitrarily the first time, they don't dry it and then get the weight to get your shrinkage. They grade it, weigh it, and decide how much to take off for shrinkage when it comes through the door. Then it goes into big lots with similar castor, they couldn't pick out the castor you sent from the rest of it now, if they wanted to. I don't know about currently, but I know years ago NAFA and FHA both took huge amounts off for "shrinkage" regardless of how dry the castor was that was sent in. I know guys that would send in very dry (over dried) castor and still have 30-50% taken off for shrinkage, on castor that wasn't going to shrink any, because it was already bone dry. I was shocked to see that BP only got hit 18% for shrinkage, to be honest.

Thanks for sharing that Shakey. My account only shows that they received 187 oz. No break downs or grades. No sales shown.
