Look like some nice prime beaver there. Are those black things your coypu skins?

Hope you do well on your beaver BP. Those your black otter, I mean nutes in the photo? Nice otter too. Some big money in cats laying there!!
I'm hoping my beaver don't take a plunge from last sale I was at. To me FHA sale wasn't encouraging. They were definitely paying less than I got a few weeks ago for sizes I had. . Decided today to go to a country buyer in a couple weeks and see what he's offering .

I saw George Kortum weighing beaver today. Actually the nutria in the one pic were from Joel (western wildlife services). I brought them over for him. The four otters were mine though.
We’re waiting for our results right now. There were 450 cats on the sale probably most individually lotted so it takes alot of time. And after the office figures out who had the high bid the buyer is notified and has the right to go back and take another look and withdraw his bid if he so chooses. Then the second highest bidder is informed and given the same opportunity. This only happens on the high dollar cats I think.
Wissmiss probably knows more about it.

Very happy with my results. George Kortum bought most of my fur again. $37.61 avg on 70 beaver and $69.41 avg on 4 otters. Another fur handling award for the otters. And $40/lb on my castor.
And now a 3.5 hour drive back home!

I think this might have been top cat. $1260 I believe. He did get a handling award for it. The back was pale and spotted too .

It sounds to me like you made the right choice on where to sell. It sounds like selling by the pound can work on beaver. It just depends on what they pay per pound. Times have changed in the beaver market. Well done.

Times have changed in the beaver market. Well done. Looks like times have changed in the fur market. Notably better results in the country. Auction overhead (additional fees) are gonna price them out of the market. Not to mention North Bay is a “geographical oddity”. 2 weeks from everywhere. Good sale Bp. It’s nice when a plan comes together.

Of course for the beaver skinning demo I put a big hole in a shoulder and tore the castors! Lol Comedy and a Tutorial all tied in together. I'm sure it was still a great Demo! I've seen your handling, hard to beat!

I've seen your handling, hard to beat! It was a pregnant female that had been frozen and with thin leather and wet toilet tissue castor walls....y'all know the type. That's my only defense....still it was embarrassing, especially after my introduction by a retired game cop was way over the top concerning my beaver skills! LOL

I did on the previous sale...just 5 pelts per size to get an idea and it would have worked out to 2.08 lb avg. For this sale a little more fur on them but I had more L and XL's than the previous sale ...so slightly smaller beaver. Probably would have been around 1.8 ...just guessing here.

Any marten there? Must be marten in the cascades? Yes there are. Hardly anybody going after them these last years. I know somebody that sold 10 tanned cascade martens at this sale for a $55 avg. Boco, thanks.

Calamity ALWAYS strikes at a speaking/demo event, lol. I was at a all black college giving a talk about beaver trapping, had a 330 set it, holding it by the spring eye i slid my finger in between the jaws to fire it off, done it 100 times no big deal BUT soon as it went off i guess that spring eye had a bit of a gap in it as it pinched a blood blister on my finger, hurt like the dickin's but i just gritted my teeth and kept on talking like nothing hapened, lol.
I guess you don't have to pleat those otter tails to win awards anymore? lol. Goofy NAFA and the crap they came up with!

I got $40 for my castor. People still send castor in ziploc bags that looks like fresh wet cow manure. That pulled down the average a lot.
wws' coyote looked kind of like the one that chases roadrunner around. Couldn't believe it fetched that!
And thanks Nancy (and Jtrap) for figuring that out. You're my heros.

Never did the pleating thing. I enjoy those western sales. Knife work seems appreciated and they seem to pay for it. Not many options east.

Yeah, nutria came back down to where they've been stuck for years. Poor H20! It aint about the money, I'm just too dumb to know better . At least I didn't do 100 this year -- (time constraints). I am sure that my failing to trap this year will cause a huge shortage and a spike in prices for next year -- right?
